"If you're so inclined, you can make cinnamon oil in your own kitchen. Pack a glass jar with cinnamon sticks, cover with a neutral flavored vegetable oil, soybean, or even pure olive oil, not extra virgin, put in a warm sunny spot, shake daily, remove cinnamon sticks after three-four weeks and strain through cheesecloth or a coffee filter. Store in a sterilized dark colored glass jar. You'll be assured you have the real thing and save yourself some $$." - bushwickgirl

"It seems to be dishes that are messy or require some manual dexterity tend to be the ones that end up being communal. I remember when my grandmother got older, she needed help rolling lumpia before the wrappers dried, so she would fill and my quick little fingers would roll up the lumpia. Kibbeh is another dish we do communally. The dough is sticky, so when we're making huge batches for holidays, it helps to have a group making the little footballs." - JungMann

"You mix sodium alginate into fruit juice and then drop it into a calcium chloride solution and it creates the spheres. The scientific reason as to why it happens is far more complicated." - twyst on making "fruit caviar"
