Campo de' Fiori has stirred little online buzz since opening last summer, yet it's managed to build a strong following among Park Slopers. The draw, Bob Martinez says, is excellent Roman-style pizza, a relative rarity in New York, "made in Brooklyn by actual Italians, not hipster bakers."
Expect rectangular pies (or slices, during the day) with a crisp crust and above-average toppings like the complex, slightly peppery sauce on the margherita (San Marzano tomato, mozzarella, basil, arugula). The funghi e salsiccia (mushrooms, Italian sausage, fior di latte, pecorino, peppers) is rich and satisfying, Deb Van D reports. Bob also likes the pie with bacon, caramelized onion, and shredded potato.
Besides pizza, there are salads, starters (Deb endorses the chicken liver crostini), and a handful of pastas. "I’ll bet you could build a very satisfying meal by mixing and matching," Bob suggests. "This place strikes just the right note," he adds, with its eager-to-please servers and comfortably minimalist décor. It might not be worth a long trip from outside the neighborhood, he says, but "I'm very glad it's near me."

Hm. As a longtime Park Slope chowhound, I have to say that the Campo pizza has been a real disappointment - the crust tastes like cardboard and they're quite skimpy on the cheese. I've tried several times but have struck out every time. Too bad because they seem like nice people and I love Roman style pizza - but this isn't it.
