Valentine’s Day on the Cheap

Aww. Two student valentines are looking for dinner for two for less than $60 (before drinks). Seems doable, no? Especially since they live in downtown Manhattan but are willing to travel to Queens or Brooklyn. Suggestions are ranging from Italian to Japanese—gotta love Chowhounds for breadth—but take Pan’s advice to call ahead and make sure the restaurant doesn’t have a “narrower, less interesting, more expensive menu” for the occasion. Hear, hear, and happy Valentine’s Day, Blues0010. We hope you find someplace lovely.

Order the sake in a box, not a glass! Some of my 'must have's': Cherrystone clams, Cold smoked tofu, Seared tuna with toasted garlic, Fried squid legs, Deep fried fish (it varies) with a flavored dipping salt (plum or citrus). For dessert, make sure to have the Black sesame seed ice cream with red bean filled pancake. Long wait for table, but the trick is to sign up in list, give your cel, go for a beer at nearby irish pub and they'll call you when your table's ready.-COLLAPSE
