A gaggle of Australian gals is coming to New York for a birthday party. This is not the start of a joke. They seek a fancy restaurant with a tasting menu—and a place to party like it’s 1985 afterward, since they are celebrating one friend’s 40th birthday. "The birthday girl is a foodie but also a major funster,” declares the Aussie inquirer. “Funster”? The funsters prefer to avoid a seafood-focused restaurant, so Eric Ripert, you’re off the hook for a Bananarama soundtrack at Le Bernardin this spring.

One helpful hound has already chimed in to inquire about budget. We’ll be curious to watch this thread unfold. (Presumably the women are not looking to dine on the Aussie flavors of Eight Mile Creek.)

  • nelson blu at peck slip in the south st. seaport is an australian bar with a good menu to pick from; it's also very roomy and the staff is very congenial.
