What the heck is beef on weck? Apparently it’s a Buffalo, New York, original: roast beef served on a German-style kimmelweck—a salted, caraway-seed-bedecked roll—that’s been dipped in beef jus. It's typically slathered with a horseradish sauce, and one Chowhound is craving it something fierce! With the closing of Wafa’s in Queens, he has very few leads—other than one hound who saw it at Mile End—so chime in if you’ve spied a kimmelweck roll in your journeys!

  • They serve it at Mile End in Boerum Hill. I haven't had it, but judging from what I have eaten there, I bet it's fantastic.

  • You can also get beef on weck at Bonnie's Grill in Park Slope. I don't know if it's good - but it's on the menu.
