Overheard on the General Topics Board

"There's a variation of the bacon/corned beef and cabbage theme that's become popular in Hawaii: Kalua pig and cabbage. Kalua pig is a whole hog cooked (until falling-apart tender) in an earth oven. Normally seasoned with lots of salt and chile peppers. The dish is a combination of shredded kalua pork and cabbage stewed together. It turns up in plate lunches, normally served with two scoops of rice." – emu48

"Cold, or cool food is tastier...and healthier. An oral surgeon friend of mine explained that constantly assaulting the inside of the delicate membranes of the mouth with burning hot food can be more of an oral cancer threat than cigarettes." – beevod

"My absolute favorite is the Northeast Kingdom's maple apple chutney. It's got that sweet/savory thing happening when you add it to the cream cheese. I use 1/2 a jar per 8 ounces of cream cheese." – Heidi cooks and bakes on store-bought chutney
