Overheard on the Boston Board

"Another great farm is Green Meadow in Hamilton. At this farm, you can wander around the farm and meet and greet the animals. Spend some time with the pigs; you can feed and pet them. Spending time with these animals has greatly changed my eating habits." – drewinmrblhd in a discussion on ethically raised meat

"JJ's Portuguese Restaurant in Somerville is also at the back of a convenience store and worth a visit for the food, not just the novelty. Snack bar/breakfast nook and neighborhood store are a lot more common, although vanishing to some extent, than full service restaurants, which both Vinny's and JJ's are (full dinner service, beer, wine, snack/sub service only in the non-dining areas)." – itaunas on the unusual number of combination restaurant-stores in the Boston area

"At the more reasonably priced end of the market is Pastene, packed in olive oil. Very tasty, about $3 a can. At Shaw/Star they stock it in the Italian imports aisle, not with the rest of the tuna. It's not going to be in a class with As do Mar, etc., and I wouldn't substitute it for that in a dish where presentation matters, but for a sandwich it's a very good deal." – BobB on a reasonably priced quality tuna
