Overheard on the Home Cooking Board

"I get my cast iron pan blasting hot, and cook the [green] beans and thin slices of sweet onion in a bit of bacon fat. Finish with the chipotle Tabasco and crumbled cooked bacon. It is a sublime way to turn a veggie into something less healthy!" – Vetter

"I could not recommend any single technique that is more useful than learning to make vegetable soups ... I usually put a chopped onion, the vegetable, water or stock on the stove, and purée when it's all very well cooked. I finish with either cream or yogurt, depending on my fattitude that day." – Jay F

"One of the best desserts I've ever had was a pineapple and mascarpone 'ravioli'—basically two very thin slices of pineapple with the mascarpone between them, and a mango sauce. I think there was some cardamom involved somewhere, probably in the cheese." – Dan G
