A new bistro called Pomme de Terre arrived two months ago in bistro-challenged Ditmas Park, and the neighborhood hounds couldn’t be happier.
“Dinner was a pleasure start to finish,” declares KingsKetz. She reports delicious steak frites, duck leg confit, chicken liver mousse, and mussels in basil-scented broth, among other things; best of all, however, was a side dish of creamy potato gratin. (She faults only the desserts, with a chocolate mousse thrown off balance by excess salt, and run-of-the-mill bread that came up short next to the delicious house-made butter.) David W liked the rich cauliflower soup (with sweet rock shrimp), a buttery potato-leek tart, and the restaurant’s nice vibe.
In this changing Brooklyn neighborhood, the hound talk has tended to focus on more downscale eateries, such as the latest Pakistani hole in the wall on nearby Coney Island Avenue. (One recent exception was the Farm on Adderley, a seasonal New American restaurant opened in 2006 by the owners of Pomme de Terre.) Brisk business at the new place suggests Ditmas Parkers had a pent-up yearning for French cuisine. fkerm reports an overflow crowd on a recent Thursday visit. “Reminded me of Henry’s End at its height,” he says, referring to the Brooklyn Heights hound favorite. “We will wait until the buzz dies down.”

Ditmas Park Eats?
My wife and I went to Pomme de Terre on Sunday, June 1, to celebrate our 2nd Anniversary. It is a welcome addition to Ditmas Park.

The staff more than made up for this by providing a crab salad appetizer on the house. We also enjoyed the tuna tartar appetizer and the grilled sardines appetizer. I had the the duck leg confit, and my wife, the mushroom ravioli. All were incredibly delicious.
I can't say enough good things about the service. They had great recommendations, were very descriptive about the dishes, and seemed very gracious to accommodate.
The food is great. The atmosphere is great. The price is great. And, I can walk there. Highly recommended. Will be back for sure!-COLLAPSE
Sounds like the menu reflects the simplicity and hidden beauty of the Pomme de Terre (potato). Much of the bistro menu's ingredients can be considered ordinary but it's the sophistication of transforming such simple foods into a delicious meal that counts.
p.s. Apple of the earth? That word is poetry in itself.
I can't get past the name, which in English sounds a whole lot less sophisticated: "Potato." Sorry...I'm sure it's wonderful...just imho the name could be a bit more inspired.
