Vito’s Is Back

Pizza-loving hounds are abuzz with news of Vito’s return. Yes, THE Vito’s, formerly of Vermont, across from LACC.

Now on La Cienega, he’s serving up great pies baked on pizza stones imported from Italy. White pizza is fantastic, pepperoni tasty and veggie pizza loaded up with chunks of tomato and broccoli, spinach and globs of ricotta.

Ciao Bob sums up: “You want average pizza, no problem, there are a hundred places to go. If you want truly perfect NY-style pizza, there’s only one choice. Vito’s blows the roof off of anything I’ve had in this City-Of-Angel-less-Pizza. Get there, and get there FAST. Get a pie (not a slice, although the slices may be great). The crust, the cheese, the sauce, the flavor, the bubbles in the crust from the oven—it’s all the real deal. ‘Nuff said.”

Cheese slices are $2.50; the rest are $3.

There’s also a new pizzeria in Los Feliz, where the cozy Italian spot Il Capriccio has branched out on Hollywood Boulevard.

The wood-fired crust is thin, but with some chew. Rapini topping is fresh and abundant, but salty anchovies, olives, and capers on the “Bella Napoli” are applied with a minimalist touch. The largest pie, at 16 inches, is more like a medium by other standards, and at $17, it only feeds two.

  • BEST pizza I have ever had. Seriously, the veggie slice is UNREAL. breadsticks...i mean, whoa. and the CANOLI is sinful.

And have Antonio grab you his favorite red wine!

  • I tried goin there a few weeks ago, but the health dept. had closed him down for 8 days. i don't care what excuse he gives me... NO MORE VITOS FOR ME, NEXT.......

  • i love vitos but i hate the 5 dollars i pay for a slice....thats why i dont eat it often. i wish i was brad and angelina i would eat it everyday like them...

  • As another pizza-hunter born & raised in Manhattan, I have to say that this is the only NY pizza in LA.

You may like something else more, whether it be Mozza or Mulberry Street, but I'm talking NY pizza here, as opposed to fine dining or celebrity sightings. Vito is the one guy out here who could head back east, open a place and legitimately compete.

  • I like Vito's the first time I had it I just wanted more. after a few trips it kind of lost it's luster a bit (still very good but I'm finding better) Stone Fire Pizza across the street during there "happy hour" time when the pizzas are half price makes a very good pizza one size, kind of small but worth $7.50 (not worth the full price). • Went there Saturday and agree on all comments. Amazing pizza, probably my #1 in LA. Mini-mall location leaves a little to be desired, but after you're first slice, you won't care...

  • I agree... Great Pizza; nice people.

  • I agree

  • I was born and raised in Manhattan and this is the first pizza that makes me feel like I am at home! We got a Pepperoni pizza and a Mediterranean Salad delivered. I even liked the nice woman who answered the phone who said "hold on one second honey" and the very sweet delivery guy who showed up on time, without 3 phone calls and asked, "How you guys doin' tonight?" - like he meant it.
