Watermelon Pairings

As refreshing as cold, sweet watermelon is on its own, it matches beautifully with salty, rich, flavorful ingredients. Make a salad with baby greens, watermelon, balsamic vinaigrette, and blue Brie, advises KiltedCook. (Blue Brie is a creamy, ripened blue-veined cheese with the bloomy white rind typical of cheeses like Brie or Camembert, says goodhealthgourmet.)

bayoucook makes watermelon, red onion, and feta cheese salad all summer, and recommends a light white balsamic dressing to go with it. amyleechen loves a salad of watermelon, goat cheese, mint, and a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. “I never would have thought those ingredients could co-exist in the same dish, but together they made for a glorious salad,” she says.

“With crunchy hunks of fried pork you can make a carnivore’s salad that works the same salty and sweet magic,” says JungMann. “With cucumbers and cayenne, you can also make a mean margarita.”

  1. I love watermelon and cucumbers together, too. Add some panela cheese, pine nuts (sunflower and pumpkin seeds are also great), and lime juice and you’ve got one of my favorite summer salads.
