Coke and Peanuts!

Coke and peanuts has been a southern treat for decades. RC Cola was used for this snack in a bottle too. As strange as it sounds, this combination of salty and sweet is really good.

Take a few swigs of coke to make room for a good amount of peanuts. You can add more as you drink. The idea is to have a mouthful of coke, including some nuts to chew. Don’t add too many nuts, or the coke will foam all over the place.

For the optimum experience, use coke in bottles made with cane sugar.

Debbie M says the book White Trash Cooking has a recipe for Coke and peanuts called “The Quick Pick Me Up” and a diet version that calls for Tab and dry-roasted peanuts!

  1. Seriously, this is the best comfort food EVER. My family used it as the ‘get well’ formula for anything that ailed (i.e. tummy aches, headaches, tears, etc. ).
When I was little, the best was when we would be on the road and stop by a gas station with an outside Coca Cola vending machine. The bottle of Coke would be ice cold with bits of chipped ice inside. We would pour the peanuts inside and drink it trying to get peanut halves with each sip. And of course we’d always end up pounding the bottom of the bottle attempting to retreive the peanuts stuck to the bottom of the bottle after the Coke was gone. Mmmmm… de-lish!

  2. I have a recipe for “coke cake” that calls for peanuts as well as, of course, a can of Coca Cola. It was “rescued” from a church cookbook from the 1950’s and reprinted in Yankee magazine about 15 years ago. Later when I worked for a women’s magazine that was supported by ads from Pepsi, we adapted the recipe further still and used that cola instead. Quite good fun and not a bad taste.
