Grom, a Turin import that keeps hounds cool with luxurious gelato, turns up the heat for winter with equally rich hot chocolate. kathryn says the Cioccolata Calda Fondente, with its base of dark Ocumare, is "silky, thick, pure chocolate goodness. Delicious!"
It's a tad pricey at $5.50 for a medium-size cup, she adds, but worth it: "I'll definitely be splurging on some hot chocolate from Grom when I'm not near La Maison du Chocolat or City Bakery" (whose popular hot chocolate festival returns next month).
Peter Cuce has no problem with Grom's pricing—he's a fan of the even costlier cup at La Maison du Chocolat, which is "basically melted down chocolate"—but he passes on City Bakery's hot chocolate, which he finds too sweet. And Grom fan Riverman500 tosses Jacques Torres and Chocolate Room into the sweet, creamy mix of hound-worthy hot chocolate destinations.

Discuss: Grom's hot chocolate - great!
I'm a gelatoholic and have tried just about every store and brand available in NYC and Gröm beats them all hands down. The hot chocolate is good, but if you're really into chocolate, the baccio flavor is divine. If not, try Crema di Gröm, which is what you'd get if chocolate chip, custard, and cookies-n-creme mated. The sorbets are also great, and I'm not into sorbets usually, because they're...+READ
The sorbets are also great, and I'm not into sorbets usually, because they're always too sweet. Gröm has some nice tart fruit flavors if you like that. Basically, I walk on a different block sometimes to save myself the binge shame.-COLLAPSE
