Fried Clams in Winter

Like many New Englanders, gltsoi has always thought of fried clams as "quintessential summer fare," but there's no need to wait for summer to enjoy this Massachusetts specialty. While there might not be beach views or outdoor seating this time of year, Boston hounds know where to find good fried clams all year long.

Clam Box in Ipswich, a longtime favorite on the Boston board, is closed in the winter, but collie recommends Essex Seafood and the Choate Bridge Pub as North Shore options that are open year-round.

In Boston proper, L2k suggests Belle Isle (for both fried clams and lobster rolls), and BostonZest likes the fried clams at Neptune Oyster and Island Creek Oyster Bar. In Arlington, emannths and gourmaniac both recommend the $12.99 fried clam lunch special at Fresh Pond Seafood.

CocoDan, who has seen people digging for steamers all through the winter in Quincy, thinks that Grumpy White's and Burke's Seafood might be good options for fried clams south of the city.
