Rhubarbs, Custards, and Other British Sweets

Think you know British candy? The Telegraph’s list of the UK’s 20 favorite sweets of all time is chockablock with goodies that might fly right over the head of your typical Yank. Here are the top five:

1. Fizzy cola bottles
2. Cola bottles
3. Rhubarbs and custards
4. Wine gums
5. Black Jacks

If you’ve never had cola bottles, they’re worth sampling. Done right, they’re a gummy bear with a complicated (if cola-inflected) soul.

  1. I find that cola bottles are pretty ubiquitous here in the States too. They sell them in the bulk bin at my local supermarket (in Minneapolis). They certainly are delicious!

But why are you listing the top five and then showing a photograph of Jelly Babies? Why not some Bassetts Wine Gums or some Black Jack Chews?
