New Finds: Duralex Picardie Tumblers

Duralex Picardie glassware has had a cult following for years because of its extreme durability (everyone’s parents had these when I was a kid because they are pretty much indestructible), inexpensive price tag, and timeless, classic design. But it’s been nearly impossible to find the French glasses outside of thrift stores for quite some time now. That’s no longer the case. Our friends over at The Kitchn shared the news that Williams-Sonoma has just made the tempered glass tumblers available once again. Stock up while you can.

  1. I was wondering what you meant by “new finds”! They’re not exactly new, just hard to find for the past three years or so.

  2. does anyone know why williams-sonoma stopped carrying them for a while? they were a staple for a friend of mine — for hot tea.

  3. Talked to the sales rep at WS who said the duralex factory was sold and they were not sure if the new owners would continue. however, recently i managed to buy 2 dozen of the tumblers at Pier 1. that was all they had and not sure if they would get any more so i called up Duralex USA and talked to a rep there who was not sure why i thought they were not available. She said, we have carried them at various retailers and you can order them online as well from us. Its almost like different versions of stories going around but these are all the ones accumulated from a couple of years. Now i am the proud owner of picardie tumblers once more and feel i should be hoarding them against potential run out somewhere or ownership changes etc..

  4. I thought you could always buy them at restaurant supply stores?
    Williams sonoma is quite pricey.

My parents used to have Arcoroc glassware and those were unbreakable also.

I also have some Libbey (I think) glass coffee mugs from a restaurant supply store and they are quite hefty and were $2 each!

Sometimes i have also seen Duralex and Arcoroc at some dollar stores surprizingly!
