Trend-O-Meter Says: Seared Ahi Is Out (6/4/09)

What do Outback Steakhouse, P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, and Rachael Ray all have in common? They serve seared ahi tuna! The ubiquitous “fancy” appetizer, usually accompanied by squeeze-bottled swirls of wasabi mayo and encrusted in sesame seeds, is as out as howling coyote art from the 1980s. Plus, a lot of tuna contains harmful levels of mercury.

  1. Maybe I’m crazy but my tastebuds don’t read trendy magazines! Seared ahi tuna served up with mixed greens, avacado, and sesame ginger dressing makes my mouth water today, yesterday and for years to come!! But, I will agree it sounds less appealing at any of the above mentioned places. Especially with wasabi mayo…yuk!

  2. I love seared tuna, and shrimp cocktail, and waldorf salad and prime rib and even jello salad and prob a lot of other things that may be out…they are still delish! To me, seared tuna is like a classic pair of shoes or coat, may not be trendy but is still a classic.
