Those looking for the perfect gastronomic way to welcome Barack Obama to the White House should certainly consider the latest offering from Ben & Jerry’s: Yes Pecan!
The stuff contains, and this is a direct quote, “Amber Waves of Buttery Ice Cream With Roasted Non-Partisan Pecans.”
All proceeds go to Common Cause, a nonpartisan, nonprofit advocacy organization founded as a vehicle for citizens to make their voices heard in the political process.
That’s buttery change we can believe in.

Ben and Jerry’s supporting a “nonpartisan” cause ? Who comes up with this science fiction nonsense ? These two timewarp hippies are so far left they make Karl Marx look moderate.
Okay, that flavor name is funny. But man this guy is so hyped. Making ice cream after a president who hasn’t yet taken office? Unbelievable. I hope he lives up to expectations; he’s been exalted so high, he’s really got nowhere to go but to let us down.
Are they serious???
Common Cause pioneered the public finance system for presidential elections which Obama dumped so he could raise $750 million dollars rather than have to make do on a measly $84 million.
Former CC President Fred Wertheimer was apoplectic.
No wonder the ice cream is full of NUTS.
Who are these wacko lefties trying to kid? They’re all about $$$$$
I don’t see any mention of Barack Obama in the name of the ice cream or its description. Where does President-Elect Obama fit in to it? And by the way, this is “Chowhound.” Does anyone know how the ice cream tastes? I’d like to know.
Ben & Jerry sold the business to Unilever in 2000, so I always feel cynical about new flavour offerings.
Ben and Jerry started using “liquid surgar” in all their ice creams. It gives me a massive migraine. I don’t know what liquid sugar is, but I don’t think it helps their ice cream. haagen dazh is still the best store bought ice cream you can buy, period.
And yes, I agree with the others, it is ridiculous to create an ice cream after a politician. There is no doubt what “Yes Pecan” is referring to, hopefully one need not have it pointed out that it alludes to the campaign slogan of Obama.
But hey, maybe this is a sign that capitalism is still alive. If people buy it, then g-d bless B&J for selling it! :)
I’m from Texas and I’ve always pronounced it “puh-kawn”. The play on words is lost on me (and Dubya). However, I support Obama all the way.
I love Butter Pecan Ice Cream!!! Will the ice cream be featured in stores everywhere…looking forward to tasting it.
Some of you guys really need to lighten up just a tad. It’s a fun take on a moment in history, and Ben & Jerry have never been strangers to capitalizing on pop culture (Phish Food, anyone?). Sounds like a pretty good spin on butter pecan ice cream to me, so I’ll probably try some.
Kudos, Suzy Q…geez lighten up, people. This is a cool idea and if you check out the site, there is no mention of Obama. He’s the president of all Americans, not just the ones that voted for him. Get over it, stop being bitter and eat some Yes Pecan ice cream!! :)
I still can’t get over the title of this posting. Cream of Obama? Really? Sounds dirty…
