During my trip to Paris I was lucky enough to visit Mariage Frères, one of the most renowned tea companies in France. The store is absolutely beautiful: dark mahogany wood walls displaying a very extensive tea collection—more than 500 varieties in all. I bought a small bag of the Wedding Imperial Tea, and my only regret is not bringing back a suitcase full. Made from golden Assam leaves, it’s a light-bodied tea with creamy notes of chocolate and caramel. Mariage Frères describes it as “a paean to love,” and I can see why.

I’ve been here as well during my trip to Paris. Paris and tea are my two favorite things. We had a nice tea lunch at Mariage Freres.
I grew up on Chinese tea, and never really “got” European or herbal teas until I tried three specific teas:
Mariage Freres French Breakfast
Fortnum and Mason Green Earl Grey
Palais du The St. Tropez
Now they are in regular rotation along with my high mountain Taiwanese oolong and Japanese matcha. Truly some of the best drinks on the planet.
Stop it, you are making me homesick. I am a tea addict, who used to live in the 3rd Arrondissement not far from the Mariage Freres mothership.
Now I have to import their black tins into Bermuda. Among my current stockpile are the Earl Grey French Blue and the The Sur Le Nil. Gorgeous!
I ordered Wedding Imperial from the store in Paris and absolutely hated it. I found the chocolate and caramel notes just weird. I am a huge tea lover and this stuff tasted just plain bad to me. I wonder if perhaps it the kind of tea that appeal to coffee lovers (I detest coffee).
