Whenever I’m homesick, I find consolation in whatever Brazilian food I can locate stateside. Besides a good cachaça, Catupiry cheese usually does the trick and isn’t too hard to find.
Catupiry was created in 1911 by a couple of Italian immigrants living in Brazil, and the recipe remains a secret to this day. It’s a soft, tangy cheese, similar to cream cheese but less sweet. It’s pretty good spread on crackers, but it tastes even better when added to pizza or shrimp dishes.
Catupiry Cheese, $29.90 for a package of two

I dream about catupiry, on my pizza and in a coxinha de frango.I went to Braz back in April and had the most amazing catupiry pizza in Sao Paulo.Gostozo!!!
Catupiry is best in pizza when they stuff the crust with it. It’s along the same lines as the Pizza Hut concept, but it actually tastes good.
Never heard of this cheese! Hope I can find it in Toronto!!
