Earlier this week, after 167 people were infected with salmonella, the FDA warned consumers not to eat raw Roma, plum, or round tomatoes—unless said tomatoes were grown in places on the agency’s safe list. According to Bloomberg, new salmonella infections are still being reported daily.
Burger King, McDonald’s, Taco Bell, and Outback Steakhouse voluntarily pulled tomatoes from their menus to avoid sharing the nasty bacterial infection with customers. This means a lot of people are being forced to eat sad, tomatoless Big Macs. Fortunately, the whole debacle gave the New York Post the opportunity to flaunt its trademark sensationalism—by running a cover story gratuitously titled “Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.”
But for tomato farmers, the bad publicity isn’t a laughing matter. Amy Philpott, a spokeswoman for the Washington-based United Fresh Produce Association, told Bloomberg that until Florida was cleared to start shipping tomatoes yesterday, her group was losing “millions of dollars each day.”
Now the good news: The FDA has added more than 20 states to its list of safe tomato growers, so you should be able to buy a few red, juicy ones at your local supermarket in time for a Father’s Day barbecue this Sunday.

Many consumers believe that using vinegar or lemmon juice it more effective than tap water….have you seen any test studies? CNN ran a story on the effectiveness of washing produce with tap water and the only thing that worked was bleach? but even that only removed 60% of bacteria.
Using ozone in water is actually an FDA and USDA approved process for removing pesticides and germs. There are quite a few distributors that already use this process and the biggest benefit is that it DOES NOT alter your produce in any way except for getting rid of all the bad stuff. Just take the Lotus Sanitizing System and try it, you will see for yourself that your produce will last up to 4 times longer without that stuff that you can’t see on it. Just think on average a household waste is over $350 in produce. The Lotus Sanitizing System will pay for itself in just a few months.
What’s the Lotus Sanitizing System?
Big Macs don’t come with tomatoes…
The Lotus Sanitizing system has two main purposes: 1. to clean and sanitize surfaces and 2. to remove pesticides and kill germs on food.
It does this using ordinary tap water. The lotus® patented Oxyshield® technology infuses cold tap water with an extra
oxygen atom, creating a natural sanitizer. By passing air through 4,500 volts of electricity, the lotus® system splits oxygen
molecules into atoms and forces this extra atom to combine and form super-oxygen. The third oxygen atom becomes the
sanitizing agent, a natural oxidant — which kills bacteria and viruses, and neutralizes pesticides. for more info please check out http://www.tersano.com. Have a great day!
