An Anderson, South Carolina, man this week stabbed himself with a knife while cooking and died later that night from the injuries. Michael Downing first burned himself on some noodles he was cutting up in a pan on the stove, and then accidentally stabbed himself in the chest with the knife when he jerked his hand away. Authorities say the steak knife slipped between Downing’s ribs and pierced his heart. His two sons, 8 and 10, witnessed the accident.
Wow. Not that it’s particularly hard to kill yourself in the kitchen: You could fall on a knife in the dishwasher, stab yourself in the stomach, catch fire at the stove—the possibilities are endless!
To add insult to, well, death, Downing had just lost 150 pounds.

ok that is a shame but the bigger shame is the kids watched
I’m sorry for the kids, too, but damn–this sounds like an intro to Six Feet Under.
Yup. Lots of ways to kill yourself in the kitchen. I find it ironic that with all the real and present danger of stoves, people think microwave ovens are scary and dangerous.
Cutting up noodles in a pan? It is a shame this happened in front of children but, Anderson sounds like a candidate for a Darwin Award.
