A New Take on the Tequila Shot

It may sound strange, but the folks at Patrón decided to mix coffee and tequila together in their new Patrón XO Café premium liqueur. When I tried it, it slid down my throat so easily I wondered if there was, in fact, tequila present. The answer is: You better believe it. While other coffee-flavored liqueurs hover at around 50 proof, Patrón is a 70-proof libation. It’s less sweet and drier than many coffee liqueurs, and tasty enough to swig straight from the bottle; or, for a more civilized approach, use it in CHOW’s Drunken Affogato.

  1. Not sure if this is from the archive but this isn’t that new. I will say it’s great stuff though, been through at least a couple bottles.

  2. this stuff has been around for years, and was a major flop. they’re relaunching it and pretending it’s new, but it’s the same old cloying muck.

  3. “When I tried it, it slid down my throat so easily I wondered if there was, in fact, tequila present.”

Amy… you honestly think the crap alcohol that normally goes into liquers is going to be smoother than Tequila?

Have you ever had any real Tequila? No the 1800 crap is not what I mean…

  4. Egad, I’m with Eat Nopal, as usual. An attempt at gilding the lily is just obscene in this case.

  5. I haven’t tried “Patron”, but Don Pancho tiquila coffee liquor is very smooth, is not sickly sweet…….and tastes like coffee. Wouldn’t want to drink enough to actually get intoxicated though……could be painful indeed!
