Salt Your Wild Oats

Open water and sugar cravings get the creative juices flowing. The makers of Kayak Cookies say that a trip off the coast of Maine inspired their oatmeal cookies, made with organic oats and flour. They’re enormous, and saltier than you’d think, but—like with fleur de sel caramels—that’s a good thing. Kayak’s cookies are so good we couldn’t pick a favorite; luckily, there’s a mixed bag.

  1. This reminds me of my favorite oatmeal cookie recipe ever, Anarchist Oatmeal Cookies! They’re amazingly crispy and perfectly salty – I still remember feeling like they were a revelation the first time I made them (and the second time, which was the next day). Because the recipe was developed by the NYC chapter of Food Not Bombs, they’re also really inexpensive to make:

  2. My two favorite salty oat cookies can be found in the washington, DC area – more or less. the first is at teaism. their salty oat cookies are amazing! you can get regular or chocolate. I also really enjoy the salty oat cookies from the Inn at Little Washington. they have a little shop next to the pricy restaurant that sells them. they are very buttery, but oh so delicious.
