I knew that my “cheese is my chocolate” mantra had to be good for something. According to a new study to come out of the powerhouse trio of the Harvard School of Public Health, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and the Harvard Medical School, fantastically full-fat dairy products are better for those still hoping to have children, while the low-fat junk could be linked to ovulatory disorders and infertility.
Dr. Chavarro’s advice to women trying to conceive is to change their diet for a while. He said “They should consider changing low-fat dairy foods for high-fat dairy foods; for instance, by swapping skimmed milk for whole milk and eating ice cream, not low fat yoghurt.”
WOO-HOO! Mitchell’s Macapuno, here I come!
But it was important to do this without increasing their daily calorie intake or upsetting the balance of overall saturated fat consumption, he said.
Oh. Darn.
Of course, before child-hopeful cheeseheads go out and eat an entire tome of oozy, goozy Gratte-Paille, just wait a minute; I’m sure another medical report will come along to refute or neutralize this claim.

I don’t think it will be refuted, as far as I know saturated fat plays a role in regulating hormones. So avoiding saturated fat could logically reduce the likelihood of conception. Not that I’m a doctor or anything.
Fascinating… I never would have guessed!
For the most part I go for lower-fat dairy, just because I prefer a lighter taste/texture (i.e. milk in coffee instead of cream, drink skim milk instead of 2%), but if I ever find myself wanting to make babies, I’m sure I can make the adjustment :)
