Hershey’s Has Gone Bananas over Elvis!

The interwebs are abuzz with the news that Hershey’s is rolling out an Elvis-inspired confection that’s fit for a King.

In honor of Presley’s 30 consecutive years of probably being dead, the chocolatier to the masses is releasing chocolate peanut butter cups topped off with a sinfully delicious layer of banana cream. Whether in mini, regular, or (of course!) king size, every cup is a loving tribute to the fried peanut-butter-and-banana sandwiches that Elvis gorged himself upon during his tragic parabolic descent toward a drug-addled demise.

Expect the whimsical memorial treat to hit the shelves next July.

  1. That kind of sounds…good. It’s at least creative, and kinds have been gorging themselves on peanut butter and bana sandwiches for years, though maybe in slightly less heart-clogging forms than Elvis’ fried masterpiece. Not being a big fan of bananas-in-things, I’d probably politely step down, but it’s as worthy an experiment for Reese’s (or Hershey’s) as it is for home cooks to swirl jam or pour cheesecake layers into their brownies.

Anyway, the US doesn’t have enough “interesting” chocolate bars, compared to Europe. In my book, nothing beats the “weird chockies” factor of Cadbury’s Turkish Delight bar.

  2. I’m definitely into it, though banana-”creme”-flavored stuff can be tricky to pull off in artificial form. Might be disturbingly like banana Now&Laters, which I always used to pawn off on my little sis as a kid. Still, I have faith in Reese’s experimental releases (like the incredible Inside-Out, the satisfying Big Cup)–they’re usually winners.
